H.H.G NUTRITION

Own a Cow Project:

The largest part of H.H.G nutritional work would be directed to the children and young mothers in Karamoja, a district in North Eastern Uganda. 3.8% of children less than 30 months in this area suffer from Malnutrition, Marasmus and are underweight. Farmers in Karamoja only harvest maize which is their staple food within their harvest season (August- September). This only provides carbohydrates and without other nutrients, the people suffer from malnutrition.

Beef and milk from Friesian cows provided through H.H.G would enhance the nutritional value for the locals. This is how it works:

  • A cow is given to a selected family and they are responsible for taking care of it and its offspring
  • H.H.G also provides additional training and education to the women and children about the importance of eating right.
  • Benefits of owning a cow:
  • Meeting dietary needs as Friesian cows provide an abundance of milk.
  • Offspring can be a source of income for the family.
  • The cows also provide manure that can be used in the fields where more nutritional crops would be grown.
